Perfil de pacientes atendidos no setor de urgência oftalmológica em hospital especializado do norte do Rio Grande Do Sul

Abstract

to analyze emergency ophthalmological care in a specialized hospital, aiming to identify the most common diagnoses in the service and to describe the sociodemographic and epidemiological profile of the treated patients. Methods: cross-sectional study, based on the analysis of medical records of patients from the emergency service. The analyzed variables were age, skin color, gender, origin and profession of the patients, in addition to the diagnosis and medical conduct. The statistical analysis comprised the absolute and relative frequency of categorical variables, as well as measures of dispersion and central tendency of numerical variables. Results: the study included 400 participants, of whom 68.2% were male, 34% were aged between 20 and 39 years, 48.8% were white and 14% were retired. The most frequent diagnosis was foreign body injury, corresponding to 35% of the sample. Conclusion: the found profile was the same as previous studies. The results are useful for guiding regional public policies, aiming to adapt the service to demand and prevent the most recurrent injuries.
