Balseiros do rio Uruguai: uma análise do cotidiano e alimentação nas fotografias

Abstract

To understand the daily life of the barge workers, it is necessary to first understand the process of settlement and colonization of the West of Santa Catarina region, which was intrinsically linked to the deforestation caused by timber companies in the 20th century. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to investigate the daily life and eating habits of the barge workers on the Uruguay River during their barge journeys. The research begins with a general overview of the history of the West of Santa Catarina and its colonization, followed by an analysis of photographs from the trips to gain a better understanding of the workers' daily routines and eating habits. For this purpose, an analysis of photographs available in memory centers such as the Centro de Memória do Oeste Catarinense (CEOM) and the Museu do Balseiros de Itá will be conducted. The analysis will be approached from the perspective of the History of Everyday Life and the analysis of photographs, supported by a theoretical framework, drawing on the bibliography of authors who study the history of everyday life, photography, and the colonization of the West of Santa Catarina, such as Agnes Heller, Boris Kossoy, and Eli Bellani, respectively.
