Abstract: | The leucena (Leucaena leucocephala) is a tree legume, which has slow initial growth, and its planting by seedlings is recommended, so for the production of leucena seedlings, it is necessary to break the natural seed dormancy caused by Impermeability of the integument to the water, which is called hard seed. This work consists of a completely randomized design that includes 4 replicates and 4 treatments for dormancy breaking, they are the mechanical, physical, chemical method and seeds in natura as a witness. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse and the seeds after receiving the treatments were placed in trays to start the germination process The germination speed of the seeds (IVG) was determined, as well as the final number of seeds germinated in each treatment, where the best results were obtained with the mechanical and chemical methods. ecause it is a lower-cost method with a lower risk to the producer, it is concluded that mechanical scarification is the best choice for breaking dormancy in leucine seeds. |
