Abstract

This final course work aims to analyze the role of cemeteries, focusing on the Frei Plácido Rohlf Municipal Cemetery in Xaxim (SC), in the construction of cultural identity and the preservation of collective memory of the community. The specific objectives include investigating how cemeteries reflect local historical aspects, studying the representation of specific social groups, examining the manifestation of social status in graves and monuments, and reflecting on the names present in the graves. The research problem seeks to understand how cemeteries act as microcosms of cultural identity and collective memory, representing social groups and reflecting changes over time. The hypothesis suggests that the analysis of the graves will reveal a direct association between the representation of social groups and the construction of local cultural identity, reflecting social, political and economic changes
