Alvorecer das lâminas: o fortalecimento do nacional-socialismo no black metal em Santa Catarina (2014 - 2022)

Abstract

The present work discusses the increase of sympathizers of Nazifascism within the black metal scene in Santa Catarina. Its objective is to understand the historical, political, and cultural context that allowed the strengthening of National Socialist Black Metal (NSBM) in Santa Catarina and how progressives have reacted to this phenomenon, focusing on the period from 2014 to 2022. Since the 2008 U.S. economic crisis, a wave of far-right movements has gained space in different countries, such as Donald Trump in the U.S. and Marine Le Pen in France. In Brazil, this trend has been particularly noticeable since the 2014 presidential elections, with the unification of right-wing parties, the political involvement of Pentecostal churches, and the anti-Workers' Party (PT) movement fueled by the Operation Car Wash investigation. In this context, politically represented by the far-right in power, numerous participants in the metal scene in Santa Catarina adhered to this political ideology and openly spread their ideals. The methodology used involves descriptive, exploratory, bibliographical and documentary research, as well as Oral History, through interviews with participants and members of high-profile bands in the Santa Catarina scene. Over the course of three chapters, it is demonstrated that the appreciation for Nazifascism within the Santa Catarina metal scene is intrinsically linked to its conservative past.
