História, literatura e gênero: um estudo sobre a representação feminina na obra, O Continente, de Erico Verissimo

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the vision and the development of the woman presented in the first two volumes of The Continent from the trilogy The Time and the Wind, written by Erico Verissimo. By studying the approximation between literature and history, this study seeks to understand how literary works generate interpretations and representations of the feminine universe. For that purpose it was carried out a literature review of the writer and his work, as well as an evaluation and a reflection on the constitution of his female characters. Then, through four characters, Ana Terra, Bibiana Terra Cambará, Maria Valéria and Luzia, this work tries to understand what interpretations and idealizations have based these characters, thus, seeking to capture the historical and social reading of the author. In addition, it was also studied what current understanding of these creations can be made to understand the contribution of these books in the pursuit of women's emancipation.
