Abstract

La présente recherche analyse les modes par lesquels la dite langue maternelle produitdes effets sur le sujet et le constitue comme sujet clivé par le Symbolique ($). Elle s’appuiesur la reconnaissance de la nécessité d’un déplacement de sens quant à la notion delangue maternelle et a pour objectif général d’analyser – dans les textesautobiographiques qui composent le corpus de cette thèse, Le Schizo et les langues (1970)de Louis Wolfson, et La langue absoute d’Elias Canetti (2010) – ce qui a été désigné sousle nom de « langue maternelle » et ses effets sur le sujet ($). La thèse centrale est lasuivante : ce que l’on appelle parfois, dans le champ de la psychanalyse, languematernelle, s’appuie sur la première langue parlée par l’enfant (langue entendue commecode et comme résultat d’un processus politique d’ordonnancement linguistique), maisne se confond pas avec elle. Elle englobe des éléments métalinguistiques et implique uneatteinte singulière, voire vertigineuse, de l’inconscient et du réel. Pour répondre à cetobjectif – et à partir de cette conception déplacée de la langue maternelle – je proposeune recherche de nature bibliographique, fondée sur une approche analytique articulantla Déconstruction derridienne et la Psychanalyse, notamment la lecture lacanienne deFreud. Ce travail se divise en deux axes principaux. Dans le premier axe, je propose uneinvestigation théorique des concepts de langue et de langue maternelle, cherchant àpréciser les sens proposés et possibles à partir de cette expression signifiante, et, dans laperspective derridienne, à déconstruire les effets d’évidence qu’elle charrie. Dans lesecond axe, je pars des textes autobiographiques constituant le corpus afin de discuter lamanière dont la langue maternelle – avec tout ce qu’elle implique : l’entrelacement avecla lalangue, la triangulation paternelle, entre autres – produit le sujet, en considérantque ce n’est qu’à partir de sa relation avec le champ du Symbolique qu’il peut advenircomme tel.

The present research analyzes the ways in which the so-called mother tongue produces effects on, and in fact produces, the subject split by the Symbolic ($). It is grounded on the recognition of the need to displace the meanings traditionally attached to the notion of the mother tongue, and its general objective is to analyze—within the autobiographical texts that constitute the corpus of this dissertation, Le Schizo et les Langues (1970) by Louis Wolfson and The Tongue Set Free by Elias Canetti (2010)—that which has been referred to as the “mother tongue” and its effects on the subject ($). The central thesis is that what has been called, at times within the field of psychoanalysis, the mother tongue, is based on the first language spoken by the child (language understood as a code and as the outcome of a political process of linguistic ordering), yet it does not coincide with it. It encompasses metalinguistic elements and exerts a striking—indeed uncanny—impact on both the unconscious and the real. To address this objective, and following this displaced conception of the mother tongue, I propose a bibliographical study grounded in an analytical approach articulated between Derridean Deconstruction and Psychoanalysis, particularly Lacan’s reading of Freud, and divided into two main axes. In the first axis, I undertake a theoretical investigation of the concepts of language and mother tongue, seeking to approach more closely the meanings proposed and made possible by this signifying expression, and, from a Derridean perspective, to deconstruct the apparent self-evidence surrounding it. In the second axis, I draw on the autobiographical texts that compose the corpus to discuss how the mother tongue—with all that it entails: its interlacing with lalangue, paternal triangulation, and related dimensions—produces the subject, considering that it is only through its relation to the field of the Symbolic that the subject can come into being as such.
