O impacto inflacionário da cesta básica sobre o poder de compra do consumidor chapecoense entre 2019 e 2024

Abstract

This present work addresses the issue of the readjustment of products that comprise the so-called basic food basket (cesta básica) in the city of Chapecó (SC), with a historical overview between the years 2019 to 2024, covering the year before the pandemic, the years of the pandemic, and one post-pandemic year, correlating it with the increases applied to the minimum wage during the same period. The data that supported this research came from the official inflation surveyed by IBGE, using the IPCA as a reference, the Brazilian minimum wage and its history during the period, the basic food basket and its origin, and how it is currently constituted. Another fundamental source was the monthly surveys conducted by the Economics Course at the Universidade Comunitária da Região de Chapecó (Community University of the Chapecó Region) in partnership with the Representatives of the Commerce Companies of the Chapecó Region on the variations in the value of basic food basket products in Chapecó (SC). This collaboration provided a history of values and readjustments between the cited years, enabling the development of the research. The objective of this work is to analyze how the costs of the basic food basket in Chapecó (SC) presented themselves in the face of official inflationary indices in the period from 2019 to 2024. The methodology employed consisted of data analysis, being a descriptive documentary research and with the application of a questionnaire to understand the perception of local consumers as a way to complement the study. This research is covered in four chapters that address theoretical foundation, methodology, analysis, and interpretation of the data, interspersed with graphs and tables detailing values and variations that occurred in the period, which allowed for outlining and presenting the costs of the basic food basket, and finally, a presentation of the responses collected via the questionnaire on how the consumer views the readjustments, and a conclusion on the topic.
