| Abstract: | This undergraduate thesis analyzes gender and class dynamics in the colonization processes of the Alto Uruguai region in Santa Catarina, specifically in the municipality of Seara, based on local memorialistic works. It begins with the understanding that regional memory has been largely constructed through memorialistic narratives and official local compilations, mostly written by men without academic training. However, the erasure of women also persists in historiographical works, which indicates that the subalternization of women is structural and crosses different forms of historical writing. The research question that guides this study is: In what ways do regional memorialistic narratives about the colonization process of Western Santa Catarina, particularly Seara, contribute or not to the subalternization of women, and how can the intersection between gender and class affect their visibility? Thus, this work problematizes the roles attributed to women in these narratives, such as childcare, domesticity and religiosity, while also seeking to make visible the subalternized experiences of teachers, midwives, rural workers and community leaders. Through a critical rereading of five works, approached here as historical sources, and through the analysis of names given to streets, squares, schools and public spaces, from an intersectional perspective of gender and class, the research identified androcentric patterns of public leadership, as well as the naturalization of the sexual division of labor, especially in rural contexts. The results show that women are not absent from these narratives, but they often appear in secondary positions, while men are associated with pioneering action and historical protagonism. Therefore, the study concludes that female subalternization occurs both through silence and through limited forms of visibility, requiring a rewriting of regional memory capable of recognizing women as historical subjects in the colonization process and in the social formation of Seara and the region as a whole. |
