Abstract: | The present study has as objective to analyze which impacts the policies of the Estado Novo - meaning “New State” - (1937-1945) caused in the educational system of the district of São Carlos (SC). Noting that during the Government of Getúlio Vargas it was intended to homogenize practices and behaviors through ethics, civility and discipline. Therefore, the sources analyzed and discussed in this study are the newspapers “A Voz do Chapecó”, “Jornal Senado”, Constitution of 1934 and 1937, Pastoral Letter of the Brazilian Plenary Council of 1939 and oral sources. These documents are available at the Memory Center of the West of Santa Catarina (CEOM) and at the Memory House in São Carlos (SC). The district of São Carlos was occupied by German settlers shortly before the “Estado Novo”. This study indicate if there were resistances about the language, how the schools were in the period and who ran them. Will be analyzed if there were provinces, because the district was in the process of formation and it was far from the said "civilized" centers. These questions will guide this research, which will show how there was intense resistance in the region against the precepts of the “Estado Novo”. |
