Leitura como fractal

Abstract

This work proposes to understand the operation of the fractal metaphor enunciated by Susana Scramim in the essay of literary criticism “Os fractais do modernismo”, published in the book Literatura do presente: história e anacronismo dos textos (2007). The metaphor appears as a way of presenting the poetic work of Carlito Azevedo. Throughout the essay, it gains strength and allows us to relate it with Michel Pêcheux (2009), when he states that the metaphor is the presentation of objects (works) to subjects (readers). This way of reading literary texts points to a theory and reveals a history of reading, a network of memory (which makes it possible to enunciate the fractal metaphor) and a metaphor discursiveness, positioning the author in relation to other reading theories. In order to understand to what extent this theory differs from other ways of understanding reading, we take up some theorists, such as: Wolfgang Iser (O ato da leitura: uma teoria do efeito estético, 1996); Umberto Eco (Obra aberta, 2015); Roland Barthes ("Escrever a leitura", "A morte do autor", 2012); Ricardo Piglia (O último leitor, 2006); and Daniel Link ("Como se lê", 2002). Questioned by the fractal metaphor, whose emergence indicates a memory and a discursivity, this theoretical articulation allows us to affirm that the reading of literature appears as a fractal. As one reads, the enlargement and unfolding of the literary text occurs.
