Da escravidão ao ensino superior: reparação ou migalhas?

Abstract

In order to discuss the theme of “slavery and racial quotas at Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul (UFFS): are they a redress or only crumbs?”, in this paper I construct the objective to evaluate racial quotas in higher education and their redress for the black people slavery in Brazil. Prejudice, discrimination, structural and institutional racism, equality in conditions and opportunities, racial democracy and insurgent citizenship are some concepts discussed in this paper. It is important to investigate if quotas for the black people in higher education, especially at UFFS, in the city of Laranjeiras do Sul, Brazil, consist as a compensation for slavery. The methodology applied in this work is qualitative and qualitative, based on bibliographic and documental research, as well as semi structured interviews with five UFFS black students. The result presents racial quotes in the universities as only crumbs, not restoring the damages caused by slavery.
