Abstract: | Vegetable crops propagation, such as cucumber, arugula and tomato, is predominantly made by seeds; thus, studies on seed treatment become essential in the search for more sustainable technologies. Currently among organic products exploited for use in agriculture, seaweed extracts have been prominent. The algae are a group that has shown favorable effects on the most varied cultures making it an alternative of use as a biostimulant. In this way, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effects cucumber, arugula and tomato seeds treatment with biostimulants based on brown and red algae on germination and seedling development. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a factorial scheme 2 x 4 (algae x doses), separately for each species, with five replications. The doses of 0, 1, 2 and 4 ml L-1 were used; also, cucumber, arugula and tomato seeds cucumber of the Caipira type, arugula of the cultivar Antonella and tomato type Santa Cruz cultivar Kada Paulista Respectively, were used. After treatment, seeds were evaluated by: germination (percentage and speed), root and shoot length and root and shoot seedling dry mass. Results were submitted to variance analysis, Tukey test (p <0.05) for the qualitative factor (algae) and regression for the quantitative factor (doses). The treatment of seeds with biostimulants has varied effects depending on the applied dose, the type of algae used and the species of vegetable studied. |
