Resume: | O dia 29 de fevereiro de 2004 marcou uma viragem na política haitiana do século XXI, depois de três anos no governo, o presidente Jean-Bertrand Aristide sofreu um golpe de Estado. Essa situação é o resultado de uma crise política que começou no ano 2000, quando o partido político Lavalas foi acusado de fraudes eleitorais durante as eleições parlamentares. Assim, os partidos da oposição agruparam-se sob a chamada Convergence Démocratique e realizaram uma aliança com o conjunto das associações que se apresentam como representantes da “sociedade civil”: o Groupe 184 liderado pelo empresário André Apaid. A partir deste momento, começou um conflito entre o Executivo e os partidos da oposição. Para resolver o conflito, a “Internacional Comunitária”, por intermédio dos EUA, da França e do Canadá, decidiu dar um golpe de Estado contra Jean-Bertrand Aristide. O presente trabalho pretende analisar os meandros e as implicações da crise política que resultou neste golpe de Estado. |
Abstract: | February 29, 2004 marked a turning point in 21st century Haitian politics, after three years in office, President Jean-Bertrand Aristide suffered a coup. This situation is the result of a political crisis that began in the year 2000, when the Lavalas political party was accused of electoral fraud during parliamentary elections. Thus, the opposition parties grouped under the so-called Convergence Démocratique and formed an alliance with all the associations that present themselves as representatives of “civil society”: Groupe 184 led by the businessman André Apaid. From this moment, a conflict began between the Executive and the opposition parties. To resolve the conflict, the “International Community”, through the USA, France and Canada, decided to carry out a coup against Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The present work intends to analyze the intricacies and implications of the political crisis that resulted in this coup. |
