Sexualidade, deficiência intelectual e os docentes: o caso de uma escola de educação especial do interior do Paraná

Abstract

People who are "normal" clearly have difficulties in understanding that subjects with Intellectual Disability have the right to exercise sexuality. Sexuality integrates the human personality, being a set that involves aspects of physical, emotional, psychological and social order. It is constitutive of every human being, encompassing the affective, erotic and relational relationships of the subjects. The objective of this study was to investigate the meanings attributed to sex education promoted for students with Intellectual Disabilities by teachers working in a special education school, as well as to identify how the process of training of teachers investigated in relation to sexuality and education of young people in the context of sex education. Thus Intellectual Disability is understood as changes in the mental structures for knowledge. It is characterized as being a psychopathological framework that refers, in particular, to cognitive functions. Methodologically, this work was characterized as qualitative exploratory. Six teachers were interviewed, who work in a special education school in a municipality in Southwest Paraná. The collection of research information was done through semi-structured interviews. The interview was conducted individually, in order to guarantee data confidentiality, comfort, spontaneity, and the formation of the link between the interviewer and the interviewees. The data analysis procedure was based on the Bardin content analysis. With regard to this study, it is necessary to study more deeply the questions related to sexuality, especially the sexuality of young people with intellectual disabilities. Through the reports of the participants, it was noticed in the group of teachers the difficulty of preparing them to work on this subject in the classroom. It is therefore considered the great importance of studies on this subject, in which it makes possible the better knowledge and improvement of the educators and also the students on this subject.
