Abstract: | The present work aimed to evaluate the effects of urea, calcium carbonate and soybean grain on the chemical composition and fermentative losses of corn silage. The experimental design used was completely randomized, with five replications per treatment (n = 25). The treatments consisted of the inclusion of urea (0.5% of the ensiled material), calcium carbonate (0.5% of the ensiled material) and soybean (5.0 and 10% of the ensiled material) in the corn silage, in addition to of the control treatment. For the variables dry matter, mineral matter, organic matter, non-nitrogen extractive and pH, a treatment effect was verified (p<0.05). The higher pH of silages with urea, calcium carbonate and soybean grain at 5% and 10%, when compared to the control treatment, can be attributed to the greater buffering power of these additives, which in the case of soybean grain is due to the high protein content of this food. For the crude protein (CP) variable, values from 4.97 to 12.18% were found, with a treatment effect being verified for the variable. The addition of soybean grain increased the crude protein and ether extract contents of corn silage. |
