Resíduos sólidos recicláveis: a COOPERVIDA-RS como colaboradora no desenvolvimento sustentável do município de Giruá/RS

Abstract

Currently, due to population growth and consumerism, the generation of solid waste (RS) has evolved exponentially, making it necessary to create a new vision about the consumption patterns and management of RS. The lack of efficient management subjects environmental quality to serious risks, such as contamination of soil and groundwater, in addition to generating waste of raw materials, if materials that can be recycled are sent directly to landfills before their maximum use. Given the above, this work aims to analyze the importance of applying the National Policy on RS (PNRS) and the efficiency of Selective Collection (CS), in addition to dissecting the benefits of implementing Recycling Cooperatives (CR) for the management of RS within the municipality of Giruá/RS. To meet the proposed objective, data was collected in loco throughout the year 2021, which made it possible to carry out a compilation to identify the characteristics of the gravimetric composition of solid waste that undergoes sorting within the Cooperativa COOPERVIDA-RS, installed in the interior of the target municipality of this study. This study detected the importance and the need to invest in awareness and environmental education actions, to make the citizen an integral part of the municipal solid waste management. In addition to highlighting the importance of the work carried out by COOPERVIDA-RS for the municipality of Giruá/RS and region, facing the achievement of a more sustainable development and the implementation of an economic system less aggressive to the environment, such as the circular economy.
