O patriotismo em Triste Fim de Policarpo Quaresma, de Lima Barreto e Os senhores do Orvalho, de Jacques Roumain

Abstract

This work proposes a comparative analysis of the novels Triste Fim de Policarpo Quaresma by Lima Barreto and Os Senhores do Orvalho by Jacques Roumain, focusing on the theme of patriotism. The research is organized into three chapters, each exploring different dimensions of this theme within the works. In the first chapter, we highlight the homeland projects advocated by Policarpo Quaresma, examining how he developed initiatives aimed at helping his homeland. We also analyze the meaning of his death, the continuity of his projects, and investigate whether the projects were maintained, how they were developed, and for whom they were completed. In the second chapter, we turn our attention to Manuel Jean Joseph, exploring his project of reconstruction and social transformation and evaluating the impact of his actions on his community. Similar to the case of Policarpo, we investigate the meaning of his death and the perpetuation of his projects after his passing. In the third chapter, we analyze the relationship between literature and patriotism in both novels.
