Políticas de assistência estudantil para estudantes mães nas universidades federais da região sul do Brasil

Abstract

Women still face numerous challenges due to the persistent mindset in society that they are responsible for domestic tasks and childcare. The fact that women spend, on average, twice as much time as men on household chores, according to data from IBGE (2024), directly impacts their participation in the labor market and in academic life. Their presence in universities reflects the social changes that have been taking place, but there is still much to be done. Based on this information, the theme of this thesis is: Student Assistance Policies for Mother Students in Federal Universities in the Southern Region of Brazil, developed through documentary research with data collected from the institutional websites of universities. This study presents some barriers faced by women in the pursuit of education, the existing legislations aimed at improving women's retention in higher education, such as the National Student Assistance Policy (PNAES), and its objective is to "Analyze student assistance policies for mother students in federal universities in the Southern Region of Brazil." There is a significant need to create public policies focused on assisting mother students to allow more mothers to access educational networks and complete their studies. Based on the results of this research, it was possible to identify that there are some actions aimed at the target audience of the study in all the institutions analyzed, with a focus on daycare assistance available in 90% of the analyzed universities, housing assistance or student housing available in 100% of the analyzed universities, and home-based exercises available in 100% of the analyzed universities.
