| Resume: | O presente trabalho apresenta uma revisão narrativa sobre o uso de plantas medicinais na etnoveterinária, abordando a importância dos conhecimentos tradicionais na prevenção e tratamento de doenças em animais. Explora-se o contexto histórico e a aplicação atual desses saberes, especialmente em áreas rurais e em comunidades com acesso restrito a serviços de saúde veterinária. Com base em uma análise de trinta e seis estudos publicados entre 1994 e 2024, observa-se a prevalência do uso de determinadas espécies vegetais, como o alho e a babosa, e seu potencial terapêutico em diversas condições, especialmente em animais como bovinos e cães. O estudo também destaca a valorização da biodiversidade e o papel cultural das práticas fitoterápicas na América Latina. A análise dos dados sugere a necessidade de mais pesquisas sobre espécies e condições menos exploradas, oferecendo uma base para futuras investigações sobre a etnoveterinária. |
| Abstract: | The present paper presents a narrative review on the use of medicinal plants in ethnoveterinary medicine, addressing the importance of traditional knowledge in the prevention and treatment of diseases in animals. It explores the historical context and current application of these practices, particularly in rural areas and communities with limited access to veterinary health services. Based on an analysis of thirty-six studies published between 1994 and 2024, there is a notable prevalence in the use of certain plant species, such as garlic and aloe vera, and their therapeutic potential for various conditions, especially in animals like cattle and dogs. The study also highlights the value of biodiversity and the cultural role of phytotherapeutic practices in Latin America. The data analysis suggests a need for further research on less-explored species and conditions, providing a basis for future investigations in ethnoveterinary medicine. |
