Abstract: The soybean (Glycine max) is the main species cultivated in Brazil and in the world, because it is used as a source of main protein in human food, being this use directly or indirectly, thus having a high weight in the trade balance of several countries. Losses occurring throughout the soybean production chain represent a high commercial value, thus causing losses and economic damages to producers. Loss of grain during the harvesting process is among one of the main problems encountered in production. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the total losses as a function of harvesting speed and sample area. To evaluate the losses in the mechanized harvest, a completely randomized design was used, in a 3x2 factorial scheme, with three different harvesting speeds 3.5, 4.5 and 5.5 km h -1 and two collection areas: 2 and 4 m². The total quantitative losses of soybean caused by these factors were evaluated. It was concluded that the losses were influenced by the speed of movement of the harvester, showing no difference in relation to the sample area.
