Abstract: Currently, it is observed that are present in many varieties of transgenic agricultural crops, which were developed in view of increasing the nutritional content of food, resistance to insects and herbicides, and a higher tolerance to adverse environmental conditions such as extremes of temperature and salinity. This article is the result of a bibliographical and documentary review of research that aims to understand the factors associated with increased area planted with transgenics in Brazil and the use of pesticides in these areas. Among the transgenic cultivars stand out more significantly in the agricultural context, the Bt corn and soy RR therefore the discussions in this paper focused more concerning these two transgenic varieties. With the research, it was found that although there are few studies that stops the comparison of costs and productivity between conventional agricultural crops and GM, and that the publications that address this issue are somewhat contradictory to each other , it might infer that genetically modified organisms may be being more grown because of the ease of cleaning and maintenance, because in economic terms, transgenic and conventional crops practically equivalent. And the increase of pesticide use in agriculture, according to the analyzed publications, may be associated with increased aera planted with agricultural crops, and the low level of education presented by a portion of small farmers in Brazil, the lack of assistance specialized technical end up using pesticides often unnecessarily.
