Os debates sobre a infância na Primeira Conferência Estadual de Ensino Primário de Santa Catarina

Abstract

This article seeks to identify the debates about childhood in the First State Conference of Primary Education in Santa Catarina in 1927. For this, it analyzes important primary sources produced at that time. In the First Republic, childhood is progressively seen as an essential stage in the formation of the Brazilian citizen, a healthy, laborious, literate and civilized citizen. I CEEP-SC occurs in this context of transformation in the Brazilian nation, when childhood is understood as a fundamental piece in the process of ordering new social behaviors. In this sense, the research presented here sought to understand the debates about childhood in I CEEP-SC, as well as to identify the theses presented at that Conference, through the primary sources produced at that event. It concludes that, in the wake of the national debate, the regional debate was fundamentally marked by hygienic concerns as well as the process of nationalization and reformulation of the country's educational standards. The debates held in I CEEP-SC focused on the dissemination of ideals and proposals for the remodeling of education in the state, assuming as the assumption that one could only raise the state to the "national standard" if instilling in the child, at the beginning of his childhood, these hygiene and moral values precepts And civic, it would learn them and would share in their homes, thus generating the much desired progress of the Brazilian nation.
